The Denver Broncos’ tailback turnstile keeps on spinning. LenDale White is out for the season after rupturing his Achilles’ tendon Thursday night at Minnesota. White will undergo surgery on Tuesday, said Chris Brantley, who represents the fifth-year running back who spent his first four seasons in Tennessee and joined the Broncos last month as a free agent. “He’s disappointed, of course, because he put so much time and effort into getting back on the field and getting another opportunity to play the game he loves,” Brantley told the Associated Press on Friday. “But he’s been very positive and will get through this fine.” Brantley said White is confident he can return to the NFL next season: “Of course. LenDale is a very focused individual and he has his mindset on coming back and finishing the business he started.”

The Houston Texans plan to release veteran cornerback Jacques Reeves, according to a league source with knowledge of the situation.

Reeves, 27, has started 35 games in six NFL seasons, appearing in 88 career games.

Two years ago, he intercepted a career-high four passes and scored the first touchdown of his career. He also knocked down a career-high 19 passes.

Looks can be deceiving.

News that the 49ers released Robinson in advance of the 53-man roster deadline could reflect a couple realities. One, the 49ers have a new special-teams coach in Kurt Schottenheimer. Any equity Robinson had built up with the previous special-teams coach, Al Everest, didn’t carry over. Two, Robinson wasn’t a factor on offense. In fact, when unusual circumstances thrust Robinson into the lineup for the exhibition opener at Indianapolis, Robinson lost a fumble on the team’s first offensive play.

Ben Roethlisberger / Pittsburgh without Ben Roethlisberger

The Pittsburgh Steelers have officially begun life without two-time Super Bowl winning quarterback Ben Roethlisberger. NFL comissioner Roger Goodell met with Roethlisberger on Frdiay and reduced his suspension from six games to four. Roethlisberger will not be allowed to train with the team until his suspension ends next month.

This was the expected outcome after the commissioner established firm guidelines in April that stated Roethlisberger could have his suspension cut two games for good behavior. Roethlisberger has done and said all the right things and seems to be heading in the right direction in his personal life.
