The Cincinnati Bengals have signed kicker Shayne Graham to a one-year contract. News: The Chicago Tribune reports that Aramis Ramirez will have one final workout on Thursday at Wrigley Field before the Cubs decide whether to place him on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to April 25. “We’ve gone about as far as we can without an extra infielder,” manager Lou Piniella said of the five-game stretch.
Alex Rodriguez won’t talk about the latest allegations that he may have used steroids when he was a highly touted high school player and performance-enhancers while playing for the New York Yankees.
T.R. Sullivan, of MLB.com, reports Texas Rangers OF Josh Hamilton (rib cage) is receiving daily treatment and is hoping to resume swinging Friday, May 1. However, he is not optimistic that he will be able to play this weekend.
Ramirez (calf) will have an MRI on Thursday on his left calf muscle, ESPN-AM 1000 reports.
News: The New York Daily News reports that an upcoming book written by Selena Roberts claims that Alex Rodriguez may have bulked up with steroids as early as high school – and was suspected of juicing while playing for the Yankees. The book is written by Selena Roberts, a Sports Illustrated reporter who broke the story that A-Rod flunked a steroid test in 2003. Rodriguez has insisted that he used steroids only while with the Texas Rangers. Roberts also accuses A-Rod of “pitch tipping” when he was with the Rangers – letting a friendly opponent at the plate know which pitch was coming in lopsided games. As far as his recovery goes, the latest news is that A-Rod played in a minor-league intrasquad game Thursday. Peter Abraham of the New York Journal News reports that A-Rod went 1-for-6 with a home run and two walks. He did not run the bases at full speed, however, and when he homered, he did not run the bases.
Hamilton (strained left rib cage muscle) is feeling better, but he still expects to remain out of the lineup until at least next week, the Associated Press reports.
