News: Cleveland Indians relief pitcher Rafael Betancourt left Sunday’s game against the New York Yankees with an apparent leg injury. After Betancourt threw a ball on a 1-1 pitch to Mark Teixeira in the eighth inning, catcher Kelly Shoppach went to the mound and was followed by manager Eric Wedge and trainer Lonnie Soloff. Betancourt talked with them briefly and left the field without throwing any warmup pitches. The right-hander entered the game with the Indians leading 4-2 and runners on second and third. His replacement, Matt Herges, gave up a game-tying double to Teixeira.

John Maine

Thats back-to-back stellar outings for Maine, who has allowed just seven hits and one earned run in a pair of wins. Control issues remain a hindrance to Maines potential, as he handed out two free passes Sunday and has issued 32 this year for a very poor 4.99 BB/9 ratio. Hes consistently had plus stuff though, and is worth giving the nod when he toes the rubber next, scheduled for June 5 in Washington.

MLB.com is reporting that the Pirates have placed reliever Donnie Veal on the 15-day DL retroactive to Saturday with a strained right groin. Veal injured himself on a 3-2 pitch to Hunter Pence in Saturday’s game.

Our View: Veal is not seeing much work with the Pirates this season, but expect him to stay on the roster since he was a Rule 5 pick earlier this year. Veal has very limited fantasy value, so this injury shouldn’t affect too many fantasy squads.
