News: Ville Leino’s goal with 3:52 left broke a tie, and Darren Helm scored two short-handed goals to lift the Detroit Red Wings to a 4-2 win over the Colorado Avalanche on Thursday. Helm’s goal with 2:04 left in the second period made it 2-0. He picked up a puck that had been chipped out of the Detroit zone by Kris Draper, raced in off the left wing for a breakaway, made a move and beat Craig Anderson high on the glove side. Helm added his second short-handed goal, and fifth tally of the season, into an empty net.

News: Brandon Yip netted both Colorado goals during a 4-2 loss to the Red Wings on Thursday. Yip put Colorado on the board with a power-play goal with 47 seconds left in the second. Yip’s second power-play goal of the night tied it at 2 with 8:01 left in the third period. He put Darcy Tucker’s cross-crease pass into the open side for his third goal.
