The New York Daily News’ Adam Rubin reports free-agent 1B Carlos Delgado (Mets) has undergone hip surgery for the second time in less than a year, according to agent David Sloane. The recovery period is expected to be four months.

Updating a previous report, the Blue Jays did not sign free agent first baseman Carlos Delgado on Tuesday, according to Jordan Bastian on Twitter.

Our View: A rumor surfaced earlier today that the two parties had agreed on a deal, but Delgado’s agent and the Jays have both shot it down. The big first baseman is still on the market, but this doesn’t necessarily mean that Toronto isn’t interested. Stay tuned as he likely won’t be a free agent much longer.

According to Brian Costa on Twitter, the Mets did not offer salary arbitration to first baseman Carlos Delgado or any of their other free agents.

Our View: Along with Delgado, Fernando Tatis was the only other Type B free agent, and the Mets had the rights to no Type A’s. Outfielders Marlon Anderson and Gary Sheffield and relievers Elmer Dessens and Duaner Sanchez were also not offered arbitration. Delgado may wind up back in New York next season, but it would likely be for just one season and at a substantially lower price than he would have receiver through an arbitrator.
