Tampa Bay Rays C Dioner Navarro was suspended two games Tuesday, April 27, for bumping an umpire Friday, April 23, according to MLB.com’s Bill Chastain. It is unknown if Navarro will appeal his suspension.

Dioner Navarro / Navarro gets two-game suspension

Rays C Dioner Navarro was given a two-game suspension and fined an undisclosed amount for bumping into an umpire in Friday’s game against Toronto. He will begin serving the suspension Tuesday, according to the Tampa Tribune. The Rays called up Jose Lobaton from Triple-A Durham to provide catching depth. To make room for Lobaton, the team demoted RP Mike Ekstrom to Durham.

News: Tampa Bay Rays catcher Dioner Navarro sustained what the team called a nerve contusion in his left leg during a home-plate collision. Navarro, who was hurt when he tagged out Minnesota’s Jacque Jones in the fourth inning of Saturday’s 6-2 loss, was taken in an ambulance to a local clinic for X-rays, which came back negative. Navarro stayed on the ground for about eight minutes and was driven off the field on a cart. An All-Star in 2008, Navarro slumped last season and hit only .218.
