Angels SP Ervin Santana improved to 6-3 on the season with a six inning quality start against the Mariners on Saturday. He allowed just a run on seven hits and three walks in his six innings, adding two strikeouts. Santana has really settled in over his last five starts. He now has a 3.29 ERA and 70 Ks on the season. Coming off three consecutive losses and a tumultuous, injury-marred first half, Santana sent a strong message in his first outing since the All-Star break. Granted, the As arent exactly tearing the cover off the ball, but its a significant step in the right direction for the right-hander, who lowered his ERA to 6.70 in 48 2/3 innings. If you can afford to take a risk, consider starting Santana when he takes on the lowly Royals offense next time out.

MLB.com is reporting that Angles’ pitcher Shane Loux threw 4.1 innings during his most recent rehab appearance on Sunday, allowing one run on three hits while striking out three. Loux is recovering from right shoulder inflammation.

Our View: Loux was much better in this start than in his last, but he is still a long shot to rejoin the rotation upon his return. With Ervin Santana scheduled to start this weekend, expect Loux to move into a middle relief role when he rejoins the team. His fantasy value will be gone as long as he is working out of the bullpen.
