Jason Ferguson / Dolphins DL Ferguson retires

July 15th, 2010
Comments Off

Dolphins DL Jason Ferguson has decided to retire. Ferguson was going to be suspended for the first eight games of the 2010 season for violating the NFL’s policy on performance-enhancing substances. “You get what you put into this game. I would like to thank my family, the fans and the organizations that I have been a part of for their continued support throughout my career, it’s been an absolute blessing to play this long,” explained Ferguson. “I have built a lot of relationships, you develop an extended family playing this game; I would like to thank that extended family, the teammates, the coaches, the support staffs that have all played a part of a great ride.”

The Browns expect Shaun Rogers to draw a suspension from the league after his April arrest “for carrying a loaded gun while attempting to board a plane at Cleveland Hopkins International Airport,” according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer.

Our View: The team could learn something at this week’s quarterly league meeting in Dallas. Stay tuned.

Jason Ferguson / Ferguson has been re-signed by the Miami Dolphins, even though he faces a suspension for the first eight

March 9th, 2010
Comments Off

Ferguson has been re-signed by the Miami Dolphins, even though he faces a suspension for the first eight games of this season.

Impacts: The Dolphins announced the signing Tuesday in a news release that made no reference to Ferguson’s suspension last week for violating the NFL’s policy on performance-enhancing substances. Ferguson, acquired by Miami in a trade with Dallas in 2008, has 128 career starts. He was sidelined by a season-ending quadriceps injury in November that required surgery and has contemplated retirement.

The Steelers have opted to place their franchise tag on Jeff Reed, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Our View: Pittsburgh didn’t have anyone else worth using the tag on following their signing of Casey Hampton and thus decided to use it on Reed, the NFL’s most accurate field goal kicker over the past three seasons. Reed will earn $2,814,000 in 2010 if a long-term deal is not worked out.

The Green Bay Packers have used their franchise tag on Pickett, keeping the hefty center of their 3-4 defense at a hefty sum.

Impacts: General manager Ted Thompson says in a statement Wednesday that the 340-pound Pickett has been a productive player and the team wants him to be a part of its future. Pickett will make just over $7 million next season if the sides don’t reach a long-term agreement first. Pickett is a nine-year veteran who has spent the last four seasons in Green Bay. Last year, he totaled 47 tackles and played a key role on one of the NFL’s best run defenses.
